Here’s a great article on things to remember when building a yearbook: https://www.entourageyearbooks.com/entourages-list-of-the-top-5-yearbook-advisor-regrets-of-may/

It is not really a regret as it is “Yearbook Adviser Lessons Learned”.

It is good to empower the students for student run publications, but I have learned from my first K-12 yearbooks.

DO NOT Automatically think the students…
    1) know how to make a book (understanding theme, content, coverage, sections…)
    2) understand the value of content and details (Naming people in a group photo, dates, epic moment from the year that should get in the book)
    3) pace the work, tasks, and to-dos (not wait until the month before it’s due, when the event or item was months ago)
    to name a few.

Going into year four with a new staff and new way to run the whole project YAY! Basically, start the school year by teaching photo composition and assigning to take the photos of school activities so you are already gathering content to fill the coverage/sections!

It’s all good if it is a lesson learned and improvements happen! #noregrets and yes accidents happen! Do your best and breathe.

One of my regrets and lessons learned is overcomplicating it – I tried so hard to break it down to small bites for my students or myself, that I used up all my time focused on only one aspect of the yearbook, then I was rushing around to do the other big equally important parts!

NAMES – Misspellings, names cut off in the text box because they are longer than the box allowed and I missed it! – spelling a name wrong or putting their full name instead of the name they go by, ie Isabella v Bella or first name is Robert, but they use their middle name, and vice versa.
